Definitely with you -- we all live our own unique reality, with our own belief systems -- by realizing this we don't get threatened by 'other realities'. So many of us just assume our unique reality is the end-all, be-all reality, and leave it at that. This assumption is so pervasive in our world.

Such a tendency we have to make judgments -- I used to think I wasn't making judgments, but I dug a little deeper and realized I was making tons of judgments. Constantly catching myself as well :)

Thanks so much Goddess Aphrodite for sharing your views. :)

I definitely agree that it does take a 'meditative' mindset when we delve into past/future -- otherwise, we're simply rolling in the waves of our reactive mind.

Also your point about the future being a 'projected past' is excellent. It's something I've been contemplating for a while, but haven't been able to grasp. Past and future are actually not true opposites, in the sense the future is kind of a fuzzy projection based on specific past events we or others have gone through.

Thanks so much for sharing these two excellent points Matthew.

indeed the notion of past and future being opposites must come from a linear/literate theory of time.

if the past has an opposite I would say it is the present.

i think you are right on target with this. What I would add is that thinking about the past or future is "best" when entered into with maximum consciousness. It is so easy to just lazily find your self lodged in past/future thought and not realize how you got there and how you have been.

additionally I would say that the thoughts of the future are really just a projected past. We take thoughts and experiences that we have had or see others experiences and project those as "our future".

You bring up an important clarification Rakesh. I do agree with what you're saying. The confusion is due to the double-meaning of 'peace'.

The 'peace' I refer to is the 'feeling of peace' -- the sensations of calm, relaxation, comfort, and ease, ultimately still limited by time-space.

The 'peace' you refer to is the 'transcendental quality' itself. This cannot be captured in words, though still demands a label for practical communication.

The problem with many spiritual teachers and teachings is they do not delineate these two very different understandings of peace. Thus, what happens is many meditators assume that being chill, relaxed, calm, or tension-free is equivalent to transcendence, when in fact they aren't related.

I will update my post to reflect this clarification, as well as write a follow up post at some point on double-meanings / double-understandings.. As for your reflections on conflict, and choice, I also agree with your insightful perspectives. I'll be sure to write something about these topics in the days ahead.

Conflict is duality, peace is non localized state i.e collapsing duality. Conflict is a program of choices, peace is a program to take away the choices.
